Scam Alert - South Burlington Police

We've recently been made aware of unsolicited phone calls being made to community members asking for donations to the "Police Officers Support Association." The South Burlington Police Department is not affiliated with this group. Please be wary of groups calling and asking for your sensitive personal or financial information despite how 'trustworthy' the caller may sound, how 'professional' their website may look, or how 'urgent' the situation may seem. There are countless worthy charities in need of assistance but do some homework before providing your credit card information.

Here are a few tips to keep you a little safer:

  • Ignore unsolicited phone calls and “robocalls.”
  • Don’t click on links in emails from unfamiliar senders. Be wary of any strange or unexpected messages, even if it's from someone you know.
  • Don’t respond to, or click on, pop-up windows on your phone or computer.
  • Don't feel pressured to click a link or provide financial information to someone who called or messaged out of the blue.

For more information, or to report instances of fraud, visit https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ ... but don't blindly click the link. See if its legit first!
