Progress Continues on Williston Road

Two new crosswalks are coming soon to Williston Road!

Construction is underway on two new crosswalks on Williston Road, at Pine Tree Terrace/Davis Parkway and between Victory Drive and Mills Avenue. Prior to their construction, the nearest crosswalks were nearly a mile apart.

Construction of the crosswalks is made possible by funding from the Penny for Paths program. In August of 2018, South Burlington residents voted to designate one penny on the tax rate to the creation of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure throughout the City. Under this program, the City has completed the Hinesburg Road crosswalks, the Spear Street jughandle sidewalk, and the Upper Allen Road shared use path. Progress continues on the South Dorset Street Shared Use Path Project, the Spear Street Shared Use Path Project, and the Williston Road Crosswalks Project.

Once complete, the Williston Road crosswalks will be a significant upgrade to pedestrian and driver safety. Midblock crosswalks and flashing beacons will improve the safety of pedestrians crossing a busy Williston Road. The pedestrian refuge islands will also function as traffic calming, and help reduce speeds on Williston Road.

What can you expect? During the construction period, pedestrians will be provided with temporary crosswalks for safe access around the work. During construction hours, flaggers will be present to help pedestrians cross Williston Road. For drivers, minor traffic impacts are anticipated. Two-way vehicle traffic will be maintained throughout the project; however, lane closures will occur to facilitate construction. Construction will continue through the fall. We ask you to please use extra caution when passing through this area and all work zones.
