Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget

Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget

The City’s Leadership Team is hard at work building a proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025 (July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025) aligned with the City Council’s goals. The Council approved budget will go to the voters on Town Meeting Day 2024 in March.  Between now and then, this budget will be discussed and debated with the City Council and community.  The Council’s priorities for this budget are to maintain our current level of service delivery and work toward achieving the goals of the City’s Climate Action Plan.

Each year, the City Council approves a schedule to develop the budget, which is available on the City’s website. The next steps in this year’s process are:

December 1: The City Manager’s Proposed FY25 Budget and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) is sent to the Council and posted on the website.

December 4 at 6:30 PM: The City Manager presents an overview of the Proposed FY25 Budget to Council.

December 15 at 9:00 AM: City Councilors and the Leadership Team will participate in a Special Meeting/Budget Retreat. Department Heads will have an opportunity to present their budgets to the Council.  The community is welcome to participate.

December 18/January 2 at 6:30 PM:  At regular City Council meetings the Council will discuss and receive feedback on the Proposed FY25 Budget.

January 16 at 6:30 PM:  The City Council will hold a Public Hearing on the Proposed FY25 Budget and Capital Improvement Plan and vote to send their FY25 Budget to the Steering Committee and the voters.

March 4 at 6:30 PM:  The City Council and School Board will hold a Pre-Town Meeting Day Public Hearing and presentation on the Proposed FY25 Budgets.

We hope you’ll take the opportunity to participate in the budget process with us by attending meetings, whether in-person or virtually, and sharing in the decisions that help make South Burlington a great place to live and work.
