Working Together for School Safety
The City of South Burlington and the South Burlington School District continue to partner on safety around our schools. The City affirmed its commitment to the safety of our residents in an October 7 memo signed by Acting City Council Chair Meaghan Emery, City Manager Jessie Baker, Police Chief Shawn Burke, and Public Works Director Tom DiPietro. The memo details the steps taken to consider and establish traffic-related school zones, fund crossing guards, and the role we all have in improving the safety of our neighbors.
Since then, the City and School District have continued to work together. At the November 2nd Steering Committee (the School Board and City Council meeting jointly), the committee established a Safe Routes to School Task Force. Earlier this week, a new school zone encompassing the Rick Marcotte Central School (RMCS) went into effect on Market Street in South Burlington, with all necessary lighting and signage.
