Energy Committee Book Discussion

Energy Committee Book Discussion

Join a conversation about the book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This event is co-hosted by the South Burlington Energy Committee and the Library. It will take place in the Library Community Room on January 18, 6:30-8:00pm.

As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these lenses of knowledge together to show that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings are we capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learning to give our own gifts in return.

This book is available to borrow from the library as a print book and as a CD audiobook for adults. It is also available as an e-book and an e-audiobook from the Green Mountain Library Consortium. Book group reserve copies will be available at the SBPL circulation desk.

Discussion will be hybrid, in-person at South Burlington Public Library and online via Zoom options.

Email sbplprograms@southburlingtonvt.gov or call 802-846-4140 if you have questions or would like to participate via Zoom.
