Seeking Volunteer for Planning Commission

Looking to serve your community? Have an interest in helping to shape our future? Earlier this year, after an 18-month process, the City Council adopted our 2024 long range City Plan. The Plan is ambitious and lays our exciting and challenging work for the community. Apply to serve on the City’s Planning Commission to help implement and realize the community’s vision!

Planning Commission                   
OPEN POSITONS:   1

The Planning Commission is responsible for developing the City’s long-range City Plan, determining how to regulate land use and development through updates to the City’s Land Development Regulations, and undertaking long range planning studies for the community. Knowledge or strong interest in community development, social engagement, land use, economics, housing, transportation, public health, natural resources, the ways in which people and communities interact is encouraged. Meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month in the evening with occasional supplemental meetings and modified dates, and assignments to special working groups. The opening is to fill a current vacancy.

Economic Development Committee

Are you interested in South Burlington’s business communities and ecosystems?  The Economic Development Committee is looking for energetic members to guide the development of an economic development strategy aligned with the City’s housing, transportation, energy and environmental goals and to otherwise work to promote South Burlington Businesses’ future prosperity and the quality of life of our residents.  The Committee is advisory to the City Council. Knowledge or strong interest in our local and regional economy and the factors that support it, businesses and business development, finances, and/or economic sustainability are desirable. 

Currently meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the early evening with occasional supplemental meetings and modified dates, and assignments to special working groups. There are two current vacancies on the committee and two additional positions will be open July 1.  Applications from interested residents not appointed will be held for future openings.

Seeking Volunteers to serve on the Public Art Committee

Seeking art interested and motivated residents to join an art loving and hardworking Committee to promote art and culture in South Burlington to advise the City Council on acquisitions of public art, matters related to public art, and otherwise encourage and support art in South Burlington.  The Committee also oversees the City's art gallery in the South Burlington Public Library and City Hall.

Currently meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the early evening with occasional supplemental meetings and modified dates, and assignments to special working groups. There are two current vacancies on the committee, 1 year remaining for a three-year term and a three year term.  Applications from interested residents not appointed will be held for future openings.
